First released in 1973 and 1974, Monogram's 1/32 scale Funny Car kits were designed by Tom Daniel and consisted of eight unique funny car bodies using the same generic chassis and wheels and tires, all with nearly identical engines-- the supercharger was topped with either an Enderle style injector scoop or a Hilborn style injector. As was typical with 1/32 Monogram Snap-Tite kits of the era, the bodies were molded in either lime green, yellow, orange, or red plastic, while the chassis, wheels, and some engine parts were molded in silver, and other engine parts, the driver's roll cage, rearend, and tires molded black. All kits included a Hemi style V8 engine, 5-slot rear wheels and disc style Centerline type front wheels, and some kits included side canard wings, too. Transparent front and rear window pieces and specific decals for each kit were also included.
The kits in this series include:
"GRRemlin" AMC Gremlin
"WHIPLASH" Chevy Camaro
"EARTHQUAKE" Chevy Vega Hatchback
"FIEND" Dodge Charger
"FAKE OUT" Ford Mustang Mach 1
"STAMPEDE" Ford Mustang II
"SHUT OUT" Ford Pinto
"RRRRIP OFF" Plymouth Duster
The below image from the 1978 Monogram catalog shows the Camaro, Mustang, Charger, and Duster:
From the 1980 Monogram catalog:
In 1991 Monogram reissued the Camaro, Duster, and Mustang Mach 1 kits under the "Luminators" series of kits. These were straight reissues of the original kits, with the black molded parts again molded in black, but now the body shells and previously silver-molded parts came molded in a single neon color-- the Camaro in orange, the Duster in yellow-green, and the Mustang Mach 1 in pink. No decals were included this time, though.
